Training Day 1: I did it!

Today started off early and not so great.

I did my daily Bible study and then went to run, where I made it half a mile and had to stop. I felt defeated and like I wasn’t going to get to where I want to go. It was definitely a moment where satan crept in and tried to make me fail. But I decided that quitting wasn’t an option. Half a mile today is still farther than the version of me who never started. Progress isn’t always pretty, and it isn’t always easy, but it is still progress. After going about my day and sitting still for a little while this afternoon, I decided to come back tonight and try again. And I did it — I completed my very first interval training! I ran/walked 1.16 miles in 30 minutes. I feel so accomplished, and it gave me the push I needed tonight. It’s not my best time, but I paced myself and made it to the end.

I’m looking forward to my training day on Thursday. Maybe this time I’ll get out of the house, depending on the weather, and see what happens. Needless to say, I’m really proud of myself tonight and I feel accomplished.

It reminded me of Abraham in the Bible. God asked him to leave everything he knew and go to a land he had never seen before. Scripture tells us he went not knowing where he was going. Abraham didn’t have the full map of the journey — he just kept walking in faith one step at a time. I’m sure there were days he felt tired, uncertain, or wondered if the promise was really ahead of him, but he kept moving anyway because he trusted the One who called him.

This journey isn’t just about miles or weight — it’s about perseverance, faith, and learning to keep going even when the road feels long. God didn’t bring me this far to leave me here, and every step I take is a reminder that I’m moving forward, even on the hard days.

So today may not have been perfect, but it was still a step. And tomorrow, I’ll lace up my shoes and try again.

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” — Hebrews 11:8
