Progress is Progress

Daily Journal and Bible Verse

When you start a new journey, it’s easy to focus on the finish line — the big miles, the big accomplishments, the moment where everything finally feels like it paid off. But the truth is, most journeys don’t begin with big moments. They begin with small ones. For me, it started with the desire to change. Leaving behind fast food, cutting out sweets, cutting out cokes and choosing to drink more water. Those little wins carried me through the last two weeks and brought me to bigger decisions: to run Disney’s half marathon next February, start writing this blog, and tell the whole world about it. All of this is way outside my comfort zone, and I have never been more excited.

Today has been filled with moments of pride in choosing to better my life, and there have been more than a few teary moments throughout the day. Even the ten-minute drive to the grocery store turned into a moment of gratitude, thanking God for the passion to change and for the dream of one day crossing that finish line at Disney. Tonight I jumped on the treadmill and watched a runDisney video to learn more about what’s ahead. I ended up walking a mile and a half in 39 minutes, which felt like such a victory considering last night was a 20-minute workout with only 0.69 miles walked. That small bit of progress made me so excited that I teared up again. It would be easy to look at those numbers and think they’re small compared to the miles ahead, but here’s the thing — I’m learning, I’m doing, and I’m growing.

Progress is progress is progress.

It’s choosing to show up again the next day.

It’s doing a little more than you did yesterday.

It’s realizing that the journey to the castle — or any finish line — isn’t built in giant leaps. It’s built one step at a time.

Every mile matters.
Every training walk matters.
Every decision to keep going matters.

This journey to the castle isn’t just about a race. It’s about discipline, growth, and trusting that God meets us right where we are. Sometimes the biggest victories aren’t the ones people see at the finish line — they’re the quiet moments where you decide not to quit. Tonight was one of those moments. One mile became one and a half and that’s how the journey continues. One step closer to the castle.

Bible Verse

"Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
— Galatians 6:9

Sometimes the hardest part of a journey isn’t the distance — it’s believing you can get there. God often works the same way training does: slowly, steadily, and one step at a time. Progress may feel small in the moment, but over time those small steps become miles. It’s normal to feel tired, discouraged, or like your efforts are going unnoticed. But this verse calls us to endure despite those feelings. The “due season” isn’t ours — it’s God’s. The promise of a harvest is certain, but it comes in His perfect timing, not according to our immediate expectations. The only condition for receiving that reward is that we do not lose heart or give up. During my walk tonight, the thought tried to slip in that I couldn’t do this. But when I looked down at my time and how far I had already come, it gave me the push I needed to keep going. Satan often uses moments like that to attack us at our weakest point, and mine has always been self-sabotage. When I realized what was happening, I stopped and asked God for the endurance to get where I wanted to be — and I made it.

This journey isn’t easy, but it is good.

Our bodies are a temple, and the way we care for them is meant to glorify God. Through this journey of getting healthy, my goal is to better glorify Him in every part of my life. This doesn’t make me perfect, but it does make me a sinner saved by grace — and that grace deserves my best.

Training Log

March 5

  • Time: 20 minutes

March 6

  • Distance: 1.5 miles

Looking Ahead

The goal right now isn’t speed. The goal is consistency — Show up > Put in the miles > Trust God in whole the process.

The castle is still a long way off, but every mile gets me a little closer.

This journey is just getting started.
